“Because,” I said.
“Because why?”
landed the reply.

There is no why.
(I said.)

Really.
(It challenged.)

“Well,
except that
we breathe,
gently ferrying in life,
conducting out little deaths

Except that
we have eyes to see
the glory of the rising sun
and the gentleness of the hanging moon.

Oh, and skin that trembles
and brushes to the breezes
and burns when turned to the light.

And that glorious smell
when any moment can turn suddenly sour
or funny
or dreamy
or creamy.”

But, this is nothing!
(I heard.)

No,
(I replied.)
This is everything.

Everything we need to be worthy.
Just because we are
Is enough.

To be loved.

Ferrying in life
Conducting out little deaths
Quiet guest rarely arousing attention

Moments of being annoyingly too hard
Moments of being fearfully too shallow

May 30, 2010

Golden halo rising from the eastern shore
Gathers in his arms the promise of the coming day
that is.

Seek to be where you are at this moment
There are no other moments
Truly, I say to you.

We know not where the path leads
even as we watch the constant arc of gold
stream across the vast blue, insisting we know his course.

This is nothing compared to the vastness in our hearts,
The stretch of contemplation on the dawn,
The lure of sweet breath on the breeze,
The praise of every shuddering and dancing leaf,
The cantor of birds in a perfectly directed chorus,
The gentle creatures that awaken to the light of the day
that is.

We are only promised one thing — being.

Take this radiant dawn, Zahira, and mold it to your liking.
It is all there for you,
always
in this one moment.
A moment that lasts for an infinity
that is.

July 9, 2010

And so the paradoxical truth is that tomorrow never comes, yet it is always arriving. We yearn and long for that next opportunity, the next dawn, the next tide rushing in, the hope of what is yet to be.

It will never come.

If we were to truly understand this, we would panic.

We would feel rudderless in a turbulent sea. “How can I make change? How can I move ahead? How can I find shore?”

Within the boat that is, we have an endless moment, a new awakening with each breath.

And if we were to truly understand this, we would panic. We would feel overwhelmed with the tsunami of what is, the magnitude of the moment.

And in this moment, we have the infinite power to create, to seize the always-arriving dawn, to ride the wave of Now.

If we truly understood this, we would aptly say: “I am a magician.”
